Cycle power

We are really keen to promote cycling and walking in South Cheltenham. If you are a cyclist we would like to know your views about how we can improve the area.

We would also like to know where we could consider putting new cycle racks in The Bath Road.

This is one of the interesting ideas in a website that we have found www.cyclehoop.com. It can be fitted to existing lamposts.

Please also let us know any other comments that you have about what we could do to help local cyclists.

Don’t judge a book by its cover.

The Bath Road shops are a key desination by bike and it’s good to see Cheltenham Connect calling for more parking – a long held aim of cycling advocates cyclecheltenham.
The current stands, positioned parallel to the kerb, were suggested by us way back, based on a layout seen in Cambridge. But more are needed, especially near the ever popular co-op store.
Other measures to encourage cycling would be an area wide 20 mph speed limit, as promoted by http://www.20splentyforus.org.uk/ whose ideas and benefits have been broadly recognised by Shire Hall.

If residents have any other ideas we would be pleased to consider them for our town-wide wish list at http://www.cyclecheltenham.org.uk/wish_list.php

A nearby idea would be the enabling of 2 way cycling on Suffolk Parade and /or Montpellier Retreat to consolidate a route through to the town centre.
